A Light for the Mind

Our Mission and Vision

Together, Every Step of the Way

The Child Cares Counselling Centre is committed to providing free counselling services to young people from low-income backgrounds who are facing difficulties.

Our main aim is to intervene and offer support before their distress develops into serious mental illness, which could pose a significant risk to their overall mental health.

Building Inner Strength

Through accessible, professional counselling, we seek to address their emotional challenges, build resilience and support positive mental-health outcomes.

We aim to provide timely intervention and support, safeguard the mental health of these disadvantaged young people and empower them to lead meaningful lives.

How Our Centre Is Funded

Our centre is funded through a charity trek in the Gobi Desert, during which participants walk 108 kilometres across the desert in mainland China. The event aims to raise awareness of growing psychological pressures in society, particularly among young people experiencing low mood, academic and work-related stress, and worsening negative emotions. The alarming increase in youth suicides has reached a crisis point, calling for urgent attention and action.

To address these challenges, we organised the charity event ‘Walking the Gobi Desert Together with Love’, held from 20 to 25 June 2024. Participants had the opportunity to experience first-hand the difficulties faced by ancient traders in such a harsh environment. The journey encouraged them to move beyond their own limitations through faith and perseverance.

The event aims to nurture a positive, determined and resilient mindset, helping participants face future obstacles, adversity and challenges. We hope to share the lessons from this experience with young people in Hong Kong, supporting their emotional well-being and giving them tools to cope with life’s difficulties.
